City police allege that a city man gassed up the same car twice the same day, three hours apart, then drove off without paying both times.
The security video at Stewarts Shop, 229 N. Massey St., led police to an arrest Tuesday.
John J. Whewell, 29, of 1620 Huntington St., Apt. J1, is charged with two counts of petit larceny and awaits prosecution in City Court.
Police said his first alleged drive-off occurred at 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 19, after he ran the pump to $32.60. He returned at 6:42 p.m. in the same car, a silver 2002 Oldsmobile Alero, for a $30.36 fill-up, police said.
He also has a petit larceny charge pending in town of Watertown Court in connection with an alleged $66 value shoplift incident on Sept. 2 at Walmart Super Center, outer Arsenal Street.
Another alleged drive-off prompted the jailing early Wednesday morning of Jessica L. McSweeney, 27, of 425 County Route 12, Gouverneur. State police charged her with petit larceny and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation following an incident at about 7 p.m. Tuesday at Stewarts Shop in Philadelphia. Police said she is accused of not paying $65.32 for the gas she pumped.
Theresa Town Justice Roger Duvall set bail at $1,000, sending her to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.
