BLACK RIVER A village man was arrested Wednesday after an investigation by the state police computer crimes unit, Albany, alleged he possessed and distributed child pornography.
Curtis H. Sprague, 35, of 119 W. Remington St., faces felony counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child and possession of an obscene performance by a child. LeRay Town Justice George E. Mead III set bail at $7,500, sending him to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown. He awaits possible grand jury action.
Documents filed with the court allege that on the afternoon of May 12, at a location in Evans Mills, Mr. Sprague possessed and shared via the Internet material depicting girls under age 16 showing their genitals in a lewd manner.
After state police investigators arrested him late Wednesday morning on a warrant, he gave a confession, which he signed, admitting that he had been viewing child pornography about four or five years.
He subsequently confirmed, The last time that I remember sharing child porn files was in May of 2012. I was chatting with an unknown person and an unknown screen name of Aim. I believe I shared just one child porn picture with this person. I would describe the picture as a naked girl that was about 11 years old with a frontal view.
The documents do not reveal whether the unknown person was a state police investigator.
