Vera F. Thomas, just shy of her 105th birthday, passed away at Ives Hill Retirement Community under the care of her family, caregivers, and Hospice.
A memorial service will be at a time and date to be announced at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Brookside Cemetery. Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.
Mrs. Thomas was born October 3, 1907 in Steamtown, OH, daughter of George and Iona McClintock Finley. She graduated from Westerville (OH) High School. She became a Dental Hygienist but then lost her job due to the Great Depression.
In January of 1939 she married Beaumont Thomas in Westerville, OH. The couple then moved to Watertown. Mr. Thomas, president of Stebbins Engineering & Manufacturing Co., died July 17, 1972.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Thomas was a member of All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, Jefferson County Historical Society, and both Ives Hill and Watertown Golf Clubs. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy T. Morgia and husband, Nicholas D., Sackets Harbor; her son, Barry F. Thomas, Lansing, NC; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren; and 1 niece and 1 nephew. Besides her husband, Beaumont, she was predeceased by 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations in her name to either Jefferson County Historical Society, 228 Washington St. or to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., both in Watertown, NY 13601.
