Potsdam tops Canton, 2-0, in NAC boys soccer

POTSDAM — The Potsdam boys soccer team took advantage of two Canton errors to win 2-0 in overtime in a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game Thursday night.

Canton (5-2-2 overall, 3-1-2 division) twice had balls deflect off its own players in the overtime periods.

Ryan McDonald made three saves for Potsdam (4-2-1, 3-1-1) to register a shutout.

GOUVERNEUR 4, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 1

Matt Waugh scored three goals in the first half to send Gouverneur (1-5-1) past the Flyers in a nonleague contest in Norwood.

Shawn Andrews scored the other goal for the Wildcats. Zeb Brown scored on a penalty kick for Norwood-Norfolk (1-5).

CHATEAUGAY 0, SARANAC CENTRAL 0 (OT)

Devon Barnes and Josh Trombley combined to help Chateaugay (2-3-1) to a scoreless tie with Section 7’s Saranac Central in a nonleague game in Clintonville. Barnes made three saves in the first half and Trombley stopped five shots in the second half and overtime for Chateaugay. Andrew Tedford finished with eight saves for Saranac Central.

GIRLS SOCCER

MASSENA 3, MALONE 1

Massena answered the only goal by the Huskies with three straight to pick up a Central Division win in Malone.

Annie Sharlow scored for Malone (2-4-1, 1-3-1) in the 54th minute. Dominique Valancius tied the game for Massena (8-1, 6-0) in the 59th minute and Kathleen Kassian scored the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute. Audrey Hayes ended the scoring in the 77th minute.

PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 1, MADRID-WADDINGTON 1 (OT)

Olivia Parmeter scored with 17 seconds left in the game to help Madrid-Waddington (3-3-2) tie the Panthers in a nonleague game in Parishville.

Blake Orosz and Katie Marcellus earned assists on the tying goal. Michaela Cole scored for the Panthers (6-2-1) in the 21st minute with Caitlin McGregor assisting.

VOLLEYBALL

CHATEAUGAY 3, MASSENA 2

Caitlin Miller scored 15 points, including 10 aces, and added 14 kills and 22 assists as Chateaugay (8-0) earned a 25-16, 24-26, 25-22, 21-25, 28-26 win over the Red Raiders in Massena.

Janisa Benedict led the Red Raiders (6-2) with 19 kills and Krista Loran scored 17 points for Massena.

MALONE 3, SALMON RIVER 1

Janelle Heden scored 25 points as the Huskies (6-2) produced a 25-11, 25-17, 24-26, 25-13 win over Salmon River in Malone.

Aimee Fleury scored 18 points and Rachel Lamica had 16 kills for Malone. Jackie Benedict and Cassie Boardway each scored seven points for the Shamrocks (6-2).

TUPPER LAKE 3,

BRUSHTON-MOIRA 0

Tanye Menke scored 12 points for the Panthers (0-7) in a 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 loss to Tupper Lake (1-6) in Brushton.
