CARTHAGE At the request of village President G. Wayne McIlroy, the River Area Council of Governments agreed to supplement funding for the summer recreation program.
The village president said at the RACOG meeting Tuesday the summer recreation program at Carthage Park widely is used not only by village residents but by children from surrounding areas.
Summer recreation Director Joanne M. Lazore reported to the village Board of Trustees there were 197 children registered in the eight-week program. They came from Carthage, West Carthage and the towns of Wilna, Croghan, Champion and Denmark. The program also had 27 nonregistered visitors. The children participated in activities at the park, walked to businesses and went on field trips to the zoo, movies, bowling lanes and Whetstone Gulf State Park.
The RACOG board approved giving $1,000 each to the Carthage and West Carthage programs.
