ORISKANY — Wyatt Bush and Mason McNitt scored on runs and Sandy Creek’s defense shut down high-scoring Oriskany, 12-0, Saturday to remain unbeaten with a tough Section 3 Class D Central football victory.

Bush, who rushed for 116 yards on 19 carries, scored on a 7-yard run in the first quarter. McNitt (10-84) contributed a 20-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter for Sandy Creek (5-0 overall, 3-0 league), which has a big home game with Westmoreland for first place on Friday night.

Helping the Comets post their second straight shutout were Jake Benedict with 11 tackles and a sack and McNitt with five tackles and two sacks. Oriskany had scored 142 points in its first four games.

WESTMORELAND 60, SOUTH LEWIS 20

Quarterback Zach Green scored three touchdowns as the Bulldogs scored in every quarter to beat the Falcons in a Class D Central game at Westmoreland.

Green also threw a touchdown pass to Tim Harrison for Westmoreland (4-1), which led 34-0 at halftime.

For South Lewis (0-5, 0-3), Lucas Kelly scored on a 65-yard run, Dominic Venturea recorded a 99-yard touchdown run and Matt Mooney caught a 53-yard TD pass from Michael McLane.

VVS 40, SOUTH JEFFERSON 10

The Spartans fell to 0-5 overall as Chris Beavo rushed for 113 yards and scored four touchdowns for the Red Devils in a Class B East game at Verona.

Beavo scored on a 4-yard run, returned a punt 75 yards for a second score, and added TD runs of 68 and 8 yards in the third quarter for Vernon-Verona-Sherrill (3-2, 2-2).

Logan Jones scored on a 10-yard run for the Spartans (0-3 league), who also recorded a safety.

GOUVERNEUR 19, MASSENA 18

An extra-point kick by Cody Woods turned out to be the difference as Gouverneur remained undefeated with a victory over Massena in a Northern Athletic Conference game in Gouverneur.

Massena (2-3 overall) missed all three of its conversion attempts and Gouverneur made just the one kick by Woods.

The Red Raiders tied the game 12-12 late in the third quarter and Gouverneur (5-0) answered with a 64-yard scoring pass from Mark Horne to Hunter Ayen. Woods’s kick gave the Wildcats a 19-12 lead.

Massena used a late drive to nearly tie the game when Jeremiah Reagan scored on a 1-yard run with 41.7 seconds left. The Red Raiders attempted a 2-point conversion but the run was stopped just short of the goal line.
