POTSDAM Medical air transport provider Air Methods began operating a medical helicopter at the Potsdam Municipal Airport Monday.
The station will operate on a fee-for-service basis.
The company already began operating its LifeNet medical service in Watertown in July and in Fort Drum in August.
Although the Potsdam station was originally slated to open in July, it was delayed due to the need to hire and train pilots, mechanics and paramedics.
The village of Potsdam paid $18,000 to update the airports facilities, adding bedrooms and a lounge area to accommodate Air Methods. The village is also planning to install a $60,000 jet fuel pump so that it can sell jet fuel to Air Methods and other customers.
Air Methods will hold an official ribbon-cutting at the Potsdam Municipal Airport at 6 p.m. Oct. 11.
