Joseph S. Barney, 32, of 829 Water St., was sent Tuesday night to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building in connection with the investigation of the theft of a pickup truck in Oneida County.

He is charged by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor. Rutland Town Justice Maureen T. Slate set bail at $5,000.

Deputies cited him with possessing the state title to the truck, a 1996 Dodge, on Monday evening in the town of Champion. The truck was found abandoned off Line School Road in the town of Champion, but his charge does not allege that he possessed the truck.

The investigation is continuing.
