MONTAGUE — A Brownville man was the victim of Wednesday afternoon’s fatal crash in the town of Montague, according to Lewis County sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies said Matthew J. Brenon, 47, at 12:37 p.m. Wednesday was driving a 2012 Dodge van north on Sears Pond Road when his vehicle went off the right side of the road at the Gardner Road intersection, went airborne and struck a telephone junction box and a tree Wednesday.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, deputies said.

Sheriff’s Department officials said that the crash may have stemmed from a medical issue, but that they would not be certain until garnering results from an autopsy slated for Thursday evening.

State police, Lewis County Search and Rescue personnel and Lowville firefighters assisted at the scene.
