CARTHAGE The village Board of Trustees at its meeting Monday authorized the newly hired village community development director to remain on community boards.
Its in the best interest of the village, because what these boards do affects the village, said G. Wayne McIlroy, village president.
The development director, John F. McHugh, is a member of the Jefferson County Advisory Council, North Country Home Consortium, Carthage Industrial Development Corp., Carthage Area Hospital board of directors, Carthage Area Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Corporation of Carthage.
Being a member of the council allows me to stay connected to community and economic development opportunities that may benefit Carthage and allows the village to maintain strong contact with the JCIDA, DANC (Development Authority of the North Country) and Tug Hill Commission, Mr. McHugh said in a letter to the board.
The consortium of which Mr. McHugh is a founding member receives HUD funding for distribution in Jefferson, St. Lawrence and Lewis counties. The village was awarded a home consortium grant in 2010 to assist with housing rehabilitation.
The CIDC has sponsored numerous community and economic development projects in the village. The hydroelectric facility on West End Avenue is a CIDC asset that benefits the Carthage community.
The Carthage Area Hospital is one of the largest employers in the Carthage area and critical part of the community, Mr. McHugh said.
