SYRACUSE — Billy Decker, of Unadilla, captured the pole for Sunday’s Super DIRT Week finale for the fifth time in his career Thursday, completing the Moody Mile in 32.997 seconds.

Decker won the top starting position for the VP Small Engine Fuels 200 race at the New York State Fairgrounds. Five other drivers — David Hebert, Peter Britten, Brett Hearn, Bobby Varin and Gary Tomkins — wrapped up the top six spots for the race.

Additional positions for Sunday’s race will be determined following today’s Triple 20s races.

Qualifying time trials for Saturday’s Gander Mountain 150 for 358 modifieds are slated for today.

n Tim McCreadie hadn’t been in his small-block race car since last year, but it didn’t seem to bother the Watertown native on Wednesday night as he won the NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week kickoff at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport.

McCreadie overtook leader Brett Hearn, of Sussex, N.J., for the victory. Matt Sheppard, of Waterloo, finished third with Danny Johnson, of Rochester, taking fourth. Stewart Friesen, of Niagara-on-the-Lakes, Ontario, Canada, and the defending VP Small Engine Fuels 200-lap champion, finished fifth. Steve Gray won the DIRTcar sportsman feature.
