EVANS MILLS- Eldon W. Schell, 99, of NYS Route 37 died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at his home while under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Born February 13, 1913 in the town of LeRay, he was the son of Newton and Bernice Brown Schell, and graduated from Theresa High School. He married Pauline M. Stevens on September 28, 1940 at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Watertown and they assumed operation of the family farm on Schell Road. Mr. Schell was the fifth generation of Schells in the Chaufty Corners area. Mrs. Schell died January 4, 1993.

Mr. Schell was a fifty year member of the Pamelia Grange, a member of the Jefferson County Pomona Grange, New York State Grange and National Grange and served as a mentor of the Pamelia Junior Grange, He was a leader of the Jefferson Valley 4-H Club,

a member for the Jefferson County 4-H Executive Committee and a member of Jefferson County Extension Service. He was trustee of Pink School House District in the Town of LeRay. He was a member of Easter Milk Producers, Jefferson County Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He served on the board of directors of the Jefferson County Artificial Breeders cooperative, from1949 to 1965, serving as President, Secretary and Treasurer. He was a member and former Chairman of the for Evans Mills Agway store committee. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Theresa Methodist Church, the planning board and of the Assessment Review Committee of the Town of LeRay and a member of the LeRay Senior Citizens.

He enjoyed gardening, reading , genealogy and local history.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Clifford and Barbara B., Evans Mills and Paul, Theresa; a daughter, Claudia Klock, Philadelphia; a sister, Doris Gibson, Evans Mills; four grandchildren, Timothy, Melony, Kent and Kirby; and four great granddaughters, Emma, Hannah, Hadleigh and Haydyn.

A brother, Irvin and three sisters, Eileen Zimmer, Erma Schell and Evelyn Skilton died before him.

The funeral will be 10 am Tuesday, October 9 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home with Pastor Rachael Roberts officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Calling hours are 5 to 7 pm Monday at the funeral Home.
