CANTON Jamie Lee Rattray scored on a breakaway less than two minutes into the game, and goalie Erica Howe stopped all the shots she faced as the Clarkson University womens hockey team opened the season with a 1-0 win over rival St. Lawrence University in a nonconference game Friday night at Appleton Arena.
Rattray scored just one minute, 42 seconds into the game for the Golden Knights, with Carly Mercer picking up an assist.
From then on Howe led Clarkson, finishing with 32 saves to produce a shutout. SLU outshot the Golden Knights in every period and finished with a 32-22 edge. The Saints also had five power-play opportunities to Clarksons one.

SUNY ONEONTA 1, SUNY POTSDAM 0
Dylan Williams scored in the 38th minute on the rebound of a shot from Jeff Christian to lead SUNY Oneonta past Potsdam (2-7-2, 0-2-2) in a SUNYAC game in Potsdam. Colan Balkwell made five saves for SUNY Oneonta (7-3-1, 4-1).

Karly DeSimone scored two goals off passes from Kayla Brantmeyer as the Red Dragons shut out the Bears (2-10, 0-4) in a SUNYAC game in Oneonta. Alaina Greco and Liz Lasota also scored for SUNY Oneonta (8-3-1, 4-1).

Taylor Cappello scored three goals as the Hurons (9-1, 3-0) defeated the Saints in a Liberty League game in Geneva.
Sara Helmer, Melanie OConnor and Julia Simmons also scored for William Smith. Courtney Cartier scored for the Saints (2-8, 1-2).

SUNY CANTON 3, SUNY OSWEGO 0
Abbey Shoen had 10 kills to help SUNY Canton (14-2) to a 25-21, 25-12, 25-18 sweep of SUNY Oswego in a nonconference game in Oswego.
Jessica Reynolds and Morgan Bills each provided nine kills for SUNY Canton. Chelsea Crump led the Lakers (9-10) with seven kills.
BEARS SPLIT AT UNION
Rachel Auerbach produced 12 kills as SUNY Potsdam (15-9) swept Lehman 25-8, 25-19, 25-15 to salvage a split on the opening day of the Interleague Challenge at Union in Schenectady. The Bears dropped their opening match to Skidmore 25-22, 26-24, 25-21.
