A 1-year-old child was sent to a local hospital for observation following a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon at Route 3 and Old Rome State Road.

According to a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy on the scene, the crash occurred when a Chevrolet truck heading south on Old Rome State Road pulled out and hit a Toyota sport utility vehicle traveling east toward the city.

Josh D. Brown, Sackets Harbor, the driver of the truck, told police he did not see the sport utility vehicle when he pulled out. He said that as a father, he was concerned that the child in the Toyota could have been injured in the crash.

Aaron M. Williams, Fort Drum, who identified himself as the brother-in-law of the driver of the Toyota, said there were no other injuries to any of the vehicle’s passengers.

A sheriff’s deputy on the scene said Mr. Brown could be charged with failing to stop at the stop sign at the corner.
