HENDERSON HARBOR — Dr. John E. Richmond , 94, formerly of Adams, NY, died Friday morning at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Sara and John Treadwell, Henderson Harbor, where he had been under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County. A memorial service will be announced at a later time.

Born June 3, 1918 in Adams, son of Dr. Harry L. and Mary Stanley Richmond, he graduated from Adams High School. He attended Syracuse University for undergraduate work and in 1942 graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He served during WWII in the U.S. Army Dental Corps from 1943 to 1946 and was stationed in the Philippines.

He married Janet Piddock July 4, 1942 at the Adams Village Baptist Church with the Rev. George Brow officiating. The couple lived in Adams and Talcott Falls all their married life. Mrs. Richmond died August 18, 2003.

Dr. Richmond practiced dentistry in Adams with his father for eleven years following his discharge from the Army. After his father’s death, he continued practicing in Adams until 1974 whereupon he moved to Talcott Falls and practiced until his retirement in 1986. He moved to Henderson, NY in 2008 to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and David Moran.

Dr. Richmond was a charter member of the Adams Lions Club. He served on the Board of Education during the consolidation of Adams, Adams Center and Mannsville schools which eventually became South Jefferson Central School. For many years he was the supervising dentist of the S.J.C.S. dental program. He was a long time member and past president of the Jefferson-Lewis County Dental Association and the 5th District Dental Society. He felt strongly that everyone should receive dental care and provided such to many Northern New York families who might not otherwise have received it. He was a lifelong member of the Adams Village Baptist Church.

Dr. Richmond is survived by one son, William J. Richmond, Tampa, FL; four daughters, Judith A. Overton, Watertown, Mary E. and husband Neil Fisher, Vienna, VA, Sara J. and husband John Treadwell, Henderson Harbor, Kathleen J. and husband Darryl Greene, Adams; son-in-law, David Moran, Henderson; nine grandchildren, two step grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he is predeceased by one daughter, Barbara Moran, who died on February 6, 2012.

He treasured his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and loved the NY Yankees and Syracuse University football and basketball. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren fishing and boating on Lake Ontario.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Barb Richmond Moran Scholarship Fund at South Jefferson Central School, PO Box 10, Adams, NY 13605, or to the Barb Richmond Moran Scholarship Fund at the Brownville/Glen Park Elementary School, PO Box 10, Main St., Brownville, NY, 13615.

Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home in Adams.
