POTSDAM Danielle Skirrow scored a goal with 3 minutes, 24 seconds remaining in the third period to give the Clarkson University womens hockey team a 3-2 victory over rival St. Lawrence University in a nonconference game Saturday at Cheel Arena.
The win gave the Golden Knights a sweep of two-game series that opened the season for both squads.
Clarkson took a 2-0 lead off first-period goals from Shelby Nisbet and Erin Ambrose. SLU answered with two goals in the third period to tie the game on shots from Kelly Sabatine and Kayla Raniwsky.
RENSSELAER 46, ST. LAWRENCE 27
SLU (0-6, 0-3) struck first with a 4-yard touchdown run by C.J. Stewart but then watched the Engineers score the next 32 points of the game in a Liberty League loss in Troy.
Quarterback Mike Hermann led RPI (4-1, 2-1), passing for 277 yards with three touchdowns and rushing for 138 yards, including an 88-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Saints quarterback Danny Metzgar passed for 189 yards, including three touchdowns, and Zane Fish threw for 171 yards, but was intercepted three times. Mike Tateosian caught nine passes for 121 yards for the Saints, and Evin Shifley had eight receptions for 129 yards.
ST. LAWRENCE 3, HOBART 0
The Saints used a three-goal outburst in the second half to defeat the Statesmen (7-3, 2-2) in a Liberty League game in Canton.
Sam DeMello scored the first two goals for SLU (11-1, 3-1), and Jeremiah Bunton added another goal for the Saints. Nate Goss-Woliner made three saves for the shutout.
RIT 1, CLARKSON 0 (OT)
Sean Coots scored an unassisted goal off a rebound in overtime to lead the Tigers past the Golden Knights (1-7-3, 1-2-1) in a Liberty League game in Potsdam.
Sean Conway made two saves for RIT (7-4, 2-2), and Saverino Spagnolo stopped nine shots for Clarkson.
SUNY NEW PALTZ 3, SUNY POTSDAM 1
Harrison Lane scored all three goals, including two in the second half to snap a 1-1 tie, as SUNY New Paltz (6-6-1, 2-4) won a SUNYAC game in Potsdam.
Alessio Vitale scored for SUNY Potsdam (2-8-2, 0-3-2).
WILLIAM SMITH 1, ST. LAWRENCE 0
Zoe Eth scored on a head shot in the 44th minute to give William Smith (9-2-1, 4-1) a win in a Liberty League contest in Geneva.
Kelsey West stopped eight shots for SLU (6-3-2, 1-2-1). William Smith goalie Chelsea Dunay did not have to make any saves for the shutout.
RIT 1, CLARKSON 0
Quincey Ornellas connected off a pass from Kiana Richards in the 12th minute to lead the Tigers (7-5, 3-2) in a Liberty League game in Rochester.
Amanda Murray made one save for the shutout, and Kim Kenline stopped nine shots for Clarkson (5-4-2, 0-3-1).
SUNY NEW PALTZ 2, SUNY POTSDAM 0
Gabby Martino and Shelby Kondelka scored goals two minutes apart in the final 10 minutes of the game as host Hawks (10-2-1, 4-1-1) defeated the Bears (2-11, 0-5) in a SUNYAC matchup. Stephanie Vega made one save for the shutout.

Morgan Kiernan and Taylor Brown each provided a goal and an assist as the Cannoneers blanked the Panthers (6-7-1) in nonconference play at Dryden.
Amber Dibble stopped 13 shots to get the shutout for Jefferson (8-4).
SLU WOMEN CLAIM TITLE
Ella Martin finished in first place overall, and the SLU women placed all five of their runners in the top 10 to claim their own Hoffman Invitational.
SLU finished with 28 points and SUNY Cortland was second with 61. Clarkson was fifth with 129 points. SUNY Canton finished sixth with 174 and SUNY Potsdam was seventh with 196.
Martin ran the 6-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 27.8 seconds. The University of Ottawas Julia Nikonorova was second in 22:30.1 and SLUs Amy Cymerman was third in 22:44.90. Former Norwood-Norfolk standout Emily Cotey finished fifth for SUNY Cortland.
SUNY Cortland fielded the top three finishers in the mens race, led by winner Tom Hopkins, and took the team title with 26 points. SLU was second with 49 points and the Saints alumni team finished fourth with 120. Clarkson was fifth with 126 points. SUNY Canton was seventh with 205 and SUNY Potsdam was ninth with 262.
Sam Rakoc finished fourth to lead the Saints.
ROCHESTER 4, ST. LAWRENCE 1
Gina Cunningham produced two goals as the Yellow Jackets (10-3, 3-1) defeated the Saints in a Liberty League game in Rochester. Shelby Hall scored one goal with two assists and Michelle Relin also scored for Rochester.
Carly Stine scored for the Saints (2-9, 1-3).
SUNY CANTON 3, UTICA 0
Jessica Reynolds produced seven kills to send the Kangaroos (15-2) to a 25-11, 25-9, 25-14 sweep in the second day of the SUNY Oswego Invitational. Mackenzie Mynter had 12 assists for SUNY Canton.
Sara Anderson scored 19 kills for the Bears (16-10) in their opening match of the Interleague Challenge at Union. SUNY Potsdam edged the host Dutchwomen 19-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11. Rachel Auerbach added 13 kills for SUNY Potsdam against Union. The Bears fell later in the day 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 15-9 to Keene State.
JEFFERSON CC GOES 2-3
Former Lowville product Lahni Dufer generated 75 assists and 25 service points to help the Cannoneers to a pair of wins at the Onondaga Community College tournament this weekend in Syracuse.
Francesca Barajas chipped in with 12 kills and 12 service points for Jefferson CC (19-7).
