The 2012 season of the Norwood Village Green Concert Series was successful on several levels. In a season conducive to outdoor performances, the series was able to surpass all of its financial and attendance goals.

Among the milestones achieved was that two of the concerts had attendance in excess of 2,000 people, and one of these concerts had an audience in excess of 3,000. That same concert on July 22 broke the record for pass-the-buckets yielding $2,755.

It is gratifying to work on a project that satisfies a diverse audience, is economically viable and enjoys a great reputation for its programming that showcases the artistic skills of it performers, many at the pinnacle of their art forms.

Over the years, the Norwood Village Green Concert Series has presented 680 performances for an audience in excess of 541,530. The series has been able to present 12 Grammy, 13 Juno and 14 International Bluegrass Music Association winners, an Emmy award winner and a National Medal of Arts recipient. It has also presented a host of international, national, regional and local performers. Additionally, it has presented many student performers and performances specific for students.

One of this past year’s successes was the major renovation of the Norwood Village Green Band Shell. A new roof was installed, acoustic panels were added, the rest rooms were upgraded, an extensive painting project was undertaken; security cameras, a security gate, and new steel doors were installed. The total project was $26,307. There was a cost over-run of $2,665, primarily because a new roof was installed and was not part of the original budget.

A “Top it off — Raise the roof” singer/songwriter fundraising concert will be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Norwood Municipal Building. The concert will spotlight the original blues-infused music of Tas Cru accompanied by Chip Lamson. It will also include the music of Geoff Hayton, and it will feature the musical duo of Mary Ann Casale and Andy Van Duyne.
