DEFERIET Village officials have scheduled a public hearing for 6 p.m. Oct. 18 in the municipal building, 68 Riverside Drive, on a proposed property- maintenance law.
The law would regulate conditions on improved and vacant lots to maintain the sanitary and hazard-free environment in the village.
The law covers keeping walkways and driveways cleared of snow and ice and in good repair. It also states precautions should be taken to prevent the development of stagnant ponds. Yards and vacant lots are required to be kept clean and free of physical hazards, rodent harborage and infestation. The law will regulate lawn mowing to keep the grass height less than 12 inches.
The entire law is available for inspection at the village offices during regular business hours, Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon; Wednesdays 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
