REDWOOD A town of Alexandria man was jailed Wednesday night on allegations that he burglarized a womans home here and stole jewelry valued at more than $20,000, according to state police.
Lon M. Miller, 26, committed the burglary Sunday morning while the homeowner was visiting at his mothers rented home on Purpura Road, an investigator alleged.
Mr. Miller is charged with second-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, heroin. Alexandria Town Justice Lewis H. Perry Jr. set bail at $10,000, sending him to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown. He awaits possible grand jury action.
Police said the burglary occurred shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday at the home of Renee DeSocio on Pine Street. Mr. Miller had been in the DeSocio home previously and knew where to find the residents jewelry, the investigator said. When she came to visit his mother Sunday morning, he left the house and drove to the DeSocio house, police allege.
Ms. DeSocio returned home in the afternoon and found that her belongings had been disturbed.
After identifying Mr. Miller as a suspect in the theft, troopers found him Wednesday afternoon at a rest area on the New York State Thruway in Ontario County. Some of the missing jewelry was recovered, but some had been sold to enable him to purchase heroin, the investigator said.
