CANTON – Canton-Potsdam Hospital has been recognized as the countys 2012 Business of the Year by the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce.
The award will be presented at the Chambers Annual Dinner Thursday at SUNY Potsdam.
No one likes getting sick, said Chamber Executive Director Patricia L. McKeown in an email. No one likes to face surgery. No one likes to call for help, but in the case of illness or emergency, everyone likes to know there is an expert and caring staff at the end of the phone. We have that level of proficiency in Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
The hospital, created in the 1970s by the merger of the Potsdam Hospital and the E.J. Noble Hospital in Canton, serves roughly 55,000 people.
Earlier this year the hospital finished a $3 million capital campaign to pay for recent construction projects on the property.
One of the most significant new additions is the new cancer care facility in Potsdam that was built last year.
With incredible community support we are now able to provide state of the art services in a consolidated location, said Vice President of Administrative Services Marlinda LaValley.
Ill take this medical staff and put it up against any other, said Canton-Potsdam Hospital President and CEO David Acker in an email.
Ms. LaValley said the hospital has focused our time and our energy on the recruitment of physicians; those practitioners that can meet the needs of our community.
Ms. LaValley also said the recognition is humbling.
Its heartening to receive recognition; we work very hard to accomplish our goals and our mission in a tough business.
Ms. LaValley said she will be at the Chambers Annual Dinner to receive the award.
