LYONS FALLS Peter W. Gydesen, 98, of 4395 River Road died early Saturday morning at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, Lowville where he had resided for 10 days.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11:00 at Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls with Rev. Naomi Kelly, pastor of the Forest Presbyterian Church officiating. A luncheon will be held at the church hall, following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Lyons Falls Fire Dept. The Callaghan Funeral Home LLC, Port Leyden is entrusted with the arrangements.
He was born in Fowlerville April 5, 1914, the son of Gyde and Eva Webster Gydesen and attended schools in Gouldtown and Lyons Falls.
He married Maude Rhone September 9, 1938 in Forest Presbyterian Church, Lyons Falls. She died Dec. 23, 1991. He married Mary Nye Farr on July 30, 1993 in Brantingham.
He worked as a carpenter for Harold Loucks Contractor, Lowville and had also been employed at Gould Paper Co. Lyons Falls and was a self-employed carpenter.
He was a member of Fly Wheels and Pulleys Club and the Civilian Conservation Corp. and was a charter member of Moose River Fish and Game Club. He was featured in a book by Marty Podskoch about the CCC camps. He collected antiques, enjoyed kayaking and had traveled to Alaska.
He is survived by his wife Mary, 3 sons and daughters-in-law Donald and Nancy ; Gyde and Nancy , both of Lyons Falls and George and Kathleen of Forestport; two daughters and sons-in-law Thelma and Stanley Poste and Sandra and Roy Aden, both of Lyons Falls. 10 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, many great grandchildren and I great-great granddaughter. Also 5 stepchildren Myrton Farr, Jr., Stephen Farr, William Farr, Donna Weber and Rebecca Farr. He is pre-deceased by 8 brothers and 4 sisters and 1 step-grandson Christopher.
