While many of us have begun to focus on the presidential election, I would like to highlight a local candidate who has been working 24 hours a day, seven days a week since announcing his run for office. Matt Doheny, our congressional candidate, has been crisscrossing the vast 21st Congressional District in an effort to speak with voters and local officials about their problems and concerns.
As a county official, I was refreshed to see a federal candidate take such an interest in local matters. These are the issues that often have the greatest impact on our community. It is impressive to see him at so many local events and take the time to listen to so many constituents. This line of communication between town, county, state and federal officials can be vital in tackling problems in an efficient and timely manner.
I am endorsing Matt Doheny for Congress because I believe that we need a representative who is willing to work with and communicate with local officials and communities before problems arise, not after.
