John W. Beenfield, 82 ,of Riverdale, Utah, passed away October 12, 2012 after battling cancer for many years. Funeral arrangements will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 20,2012 at the LDS church in Riverdale, Utah. Burial will immediately follow at the Henefer City Cemetery, Henefer, Utah.

He was born in Watertown, NY on June 24, 1930, son of Roy Otis and Genevieve Brown Beenfield. He graduated from Watertown High School and attended some college.

He was married to Nellie May Reed, daughter of Loved and Laura Reed of East Rodman,NY on October 22, 1955.

He was a policemen and later a detective for the Watertown Police Department for many years. Following retirement , he worked as the Security Supervisor for the Mercy hospital and later did Volunteer work at the hospital, which he really enjoyed. He also had a second hand business at his home in Adams, NY. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, he had several callings, including a member of the Bishopric, High council, secretary and choir director. In later years he and his wife did extraction work for the church. He was sealed to his wife in the Washington DC temple on October 1, 1976.

He is survived by his wife Nellie and three children. One daughter Suzanna (Otto) Ryssman of Illinois, two sons , Kevin (Valarie) Beenfield of Henefer, Ut, and Steven (Julie) Beenfield of Riverdale, Utah. He has twelve grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and son, David Roy who died in 1980 due to a motorcycle accident.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society, in memory of John W. Beenfield.
