Several high-profile Republican figures are headed to Mexico, in Oswego County, to support Mike Backus' county clerk campaign.

His opponent is Phillip Vasho, a Democrat and former county legislator.

The fundraiser, scheduled for Oct. 24, will include Ambassador Douglas Barclay, Assemblyman Will Barclay, state Sen. Patty Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, and U.S. Reps. Ann Marie Buerkle, R-Onondaga Hill, and Richard Hanna, R-Barneveld.

Also attending: former U.S. Sen. Alfonse D'Amato, who now runs the lobby shop Park Strategies.
