Return street sign put up to protect children

About two months ago, I contacted the city of Watertown and talked to the mayor’s office and the police department asking that a sign be placed on the top of St. Mary Street hill warning vehicles to be aware that children play in the road.

I was told the city no longer did this, so I purchased a sign that read “Caution, children at play” and attached it to a metal pole at the top of the hill. Someone removed the sign.

There are a number of children who play in the road at any given time. Drivers come down the hill anywhere between 20 mph and 30 mph. I know, because I used a speed gun to clock them.

Sometime, someday, someone won’t be able to stop in time to miss a child.

Whoever removed the sign for whatever reason, should put it back up. If you don’t do it, someone, someday, will hit a child possibly causing injury or death.

By the way, the sign cost only $20. The city can spend $6,000 chasing birds from the Square but can’t afford $20 to put up caution signs to protect our children.
