Indian River has parlayed a high seed in the Section 3 Class A football playoffs into a semifinal game close to home this weekend.
The second-seeded Warriors (7-1) will play No. 3 Nottingham (6-2) at 7 p.m. Friday on Watertown High Schools turf field.
The other semfinal has No. 1 Jamesville-DeWitt (8-0) meeting No. 4 Whitesboro (6-2) a 7 p.m. Friday at Chittenango.
Indian River advanced with a 35-14 quarterfinal win over No. 7 Fulton. Nottingham eliminated No. 6 Carthage 46-23.
Lowville (6-2), the No. 7 seed that has posted consecutive upsets over No. 2 Waterville and No. 3 Tully, will play for the C-2 title at 7 p.m. Saturday at Rome Free Academy against No. 1 Herkimer (8-0). The Red Raiders beat Tully 34-26 in the semifinals, while Herkimer topped No. 4 Frankfort-Schuyler, 42-6.
Sandy Creek (8-0), the top seed in Class D, will travel to Fulton to meet No. 4 Weedsport (7-1) in a 7 p.m. semifinal on Friday. The Comets hung on to beat No. 8 Dolgeville 28-21 in the quarterfinals, while Weedsport beat No. 5 Sauquoit Valley 28-19.
The other Class D final has No. 2 West Canada Valley (8-0) playing No. 6 Westmoreland (6-2) at 7 p.m. Friday at Utica Proctor.
Finals are slated for Nov. 2-3 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.
