A woman who is believed to have been in the Watertown area about a year was jailed Monday night after narcotics officers said they seized 24 packets of heroin in her motel room.

Brittaney S. Farris, 22, arrested in Room 7 at the Budget Inn, 19226 Route 11, town of Watertown, is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Town of Watertown Justice David A. Renzi set bail at $20,000, sending her to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building to await possible grand jury action.

Ms. Farris was alone in the motel room when the raid by the Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force was conducted shortly after 5:30 p.m., an investigator said. In addition to the 24 packets, police armed with a search warrant seized $843 in cash, packaging material, a cutting agent and an electric grinder, according to documents filed with the court.

The seized items indicate “this was more associated with selling more than for personal use,” the investigator said. He set the street value of the heroin at $720.

The investigator said Ms. Farris had been under investigation for several weeks.

She told police she is from New Hampshire. She told jail personnel she is a native of Las Vegas, Nev.

The investigation is continuing, the investigator said, with more charges anticipated.
