Spencer’s Restaurant in Chaumont sold; “The Crescent” will open in January

CHAUMONT — Spencer’s Restaurant and Bar on Route 12 will reopen as the Crescent this winter under new ownership.

Co-owner Anne M. “Boo” Harris said Tuesday that the cleanup and repainting of the restaurant has already begun.

The new owners — Mrs. Harris and her husband, Michael J.; her sisters, Laura E. Moore and Mary E. Wisner, and Joseph Valentine — are hoping to get their liquor license and have the bar area opened up in January “for the locals and snowmobilers.”

“We’re really excited about it and think it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Mrs. Harris said. “We wanted to keep the area’s history alive with the new name and we’re so happy with the support from the community so far.”

She said the Williams family — owners of the popular Wise Guys Pizza in Chaumont — also has been giving them a lot of advice on how to make their business a success.

The restaurant will be “brightened up” and will have a new deck by next summer but besides that, the new owners hope to continue offering good homemade food and keep the familiar wing nights and fish fry specials.

The restaurant was closed in August and the foreclosed property was sold for $175,000, less than what the former owner paid for the 0.87-acre property, according to Jefferson County’s Oct. 22 property sale records.

Matthew A. Spencer, a Dexter native, bought the former Duck Inn in 2007 from Charles B. and Sandra S. Bliven for $211,000 with a loan from the federal Small Business Administration.
