Anthony J. “Tony” Bailey, 49, of Malone, passed away in unexpectedly in Malone on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 as a result of an automobile accident.

Born in Utica, N.Y. on July 31, 1963, he was the son of the late Edmund G. and Margaret S. Storms Bailey. He graduated from Adirondack High School in Boonville, Canton ATC with an associate’s degree in criminal justice and later from Utica College with a bachelor’s in criminal justice. He was a member of the ROTC. In May of 1985, he became a commissioned second lieutenant in the Army Engineers. From 1985 until 1989, he was stationed in Fairbanks, Ark. at Fort Wainwright. From 1989-90, he was stationed at Fort Drum in Watertown, N.Y. and served in Iraq Operation Desert Storm until his discharge in August 1992. In 1992, he graduated from the New York State Police Academy. He served at Troop B in Malone from 1992 until 2000 as a trooper. While serving in the New York State Police, he received the Brummer Award, which is one of the highest honors given by the State Police, for his heroic action during an automobile accident in Malone. From 2000 until 2012, he served at Troop B in the BCI division. After his retirement this year from the State Police, he accepted a position with the Federal Government Division of Home Land Security as an intelligence research specialist.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of the Malone Lodge of Elks, Malone AMVETS and Malone American Legion. He is a past member of the Boonville Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed hunting, four wheeling and spending time with his family. His family, friends and co-workers were a very important part of his life.

On September 21, 1985, he was united in marriage to the former Jennifer A. King at St. Joseph’s Church in Boonville. She survives.

Along with his loving wife, Jennifer, he is survived by two daughters, Elise Bailey and her companion, Jared Olsen of Erie, Pa., and Kaitlin Bailey and her companion, Andrew Maben of Buffalo, N.Y.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, his twin, Andrew and his wife Lynn Bailey, and Bernard Bailey, all of Boonville; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Victoria and John Paparelli of San Antonio, TX, Virginia Bailey and her companion, Douglas Moore of Medford Lakes, N.J., and Vera and William Howard of San Antonio, TX; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in Malone. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Boonville on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Donations may be made in his memory to the New York State Trooper Foundation, Westville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department or to Hospice of the North Country, Inc.
