SYRACUSE Senior Samantha Favret of Watertown qualified for states in the 100-yard freestyle during the Section 3 state qualifier at Nottingham High School in Syracuse.
Favret swam the first leg of her teams 400 free relay in a state-qualifying time of 54.30 seconds, which is also a school record. The relay finished fourth in a time of 3 minutes, 49.80 seconds to reset its Frontier League record from Thursdays Class B competition. Other members of the relay included Julia Marilley, Brittney Thesier and Bree Jefferds.
Favret, who already qualified for states in the 100 backstroke during the league and Section 3 Class B meets, finished third in that event Saturday with a state-qualifying time. She took third place in the 50 freestyle, resetting her league mark from Thursday with a time of 24.87.
Thesier placed sixth in the 500 freestyle and seventh in the 200 free.
The state meet is slated for Nov. 16-17 at Ithaca College.
CANTON CLAIMS TITLE
Dasha Lapoint captured the 50-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly and contributed to the first-place 200 medley and 400 free relays as Canton claimed the Section 10 title at SUNY Potsdam.
Canton finished with 326 points, while Massena was second with 285. Ogdensburg Free Academy (194) placed third.
Angelina Domena won the 500 free and swam on the two winning relays for Canton.
Massenas Laura Hartman captured the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, and OFAs Susie Morrow took the 200 free and 100 backstroke.
Malones Kenzie Wilson claimed the 100 freestyle.
Massena won the 200 freestyle relay.
HARRISVILLE 1, COLTON-PIERREPONT 0
Tyler Sale made nine saves as the No. 5 Pirates defeated the No. 4 Colts (11-6-1) in a Class D quarterfinal in South Colton.
Tim Fowler scored the only goal for the Pirates (14-5) in the 74th minute.
Harrisville will face No. 1 Lisbon in a semifinal at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at Potsdam High School.
CANTON 1, BRUSHTON-MOIRA 0
Canton fullback Brandon Rodee scored after a long pass from Jake Watson with 11 minutes, 17 seconds left in regulation to lead top-seeded Canton (9-4-4) to a win over No. 2 Brushton-Moira in the Section 10 Class C championship game in Massena.
Scott Wight made five saves to shut out the Panthers (11-5-2).
OFA 1, POTSDAM 0
Gian Rufa scored a first-half goal to lead No. 2 OFA past top-seeded Potsdam (11-4-1) in the Class B championship game at SUNY Canton.
Jake Sias made 10 saves to lead OFA (8-5-4) to its first title since 2003.
CANTON 2, TUPPER LAKE 0
Lauren Smith scored one goal and assisted on another as the top-seeded Golden Bears defeated the No. 3 Lumberjacks (8-7) in the Class C championship game at Massena High School.
Kali Frank also scored for the Golden Bears (12-5-1), and Katie Clemmer made four saves.
POTSDAM 2, GOUVERNEUR 1
Nette Rishe scored the game-winning goal with 18:27 left as No. 1 Potsdam edged No. 3 Gouverneur in the Class B championship at SUNY Canton.
Abby Gagnon also scored for Potsdam (9-6-2).
Kirstin Roberts scored for Gouverneur (4-9-4).
MASSENA 3, MALONE 0
Dominique Valancius assisted on the first two goals and scored the final one as the No. 1 Red Raiders (14-1-1) defeated the No. 2 Huskies (6-10-1) in the Class A championship at Potsdam High School.
PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 5, HARRISVILLE 0
Emily Sloan scored one goal and added three assists as the No. 2 Panthers defeated the No. 7 Pirates (11-6-1) in a Class D quarterfinal in Parishville.
Parishville-Hopkinton (12-4-1) will face No. 3 Heuvelton in a semifinal at 5 p.m. Monday at Potsdam High School.
Brianna Hayes, Kelsey Putnam and Casara Cole also scored for Parishville-Hopkinton.
Saranac Lake 42, OFA 12
Matt Phelan passed for 253 yards and three touchdowns to lead Section 7s Saranac Lake to a 42-12 win over Ogdensburg Free Academy in a state Class C qualifier game at Clintonville.
The Red Storm (10-0) built a 21-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and led 35-6 by halftime.
Seth Pickreign rushed for 78 yards on 10 carries and Kevin Morgan caught three passes for 90 yards, including two touchdowns. One of Morgans touchdowns was on a 65-yard reception.
Nate Angel passed for 50 yards for the Blue Devils (4-5) and rushed for 52 yards.
