CANTON — Franklin County residents Chris L. Sabin and her mother, Aletha M. Sabin, left the Mystical Journey Holistic and Psychic Faire on Sunday in peace.

They had come to the fair at the Best Western University Inn for a personal reading with psychic Kris Faso.

“It’s very interesting,” the senior Mrs. Sabin said. “There’s so much of it right on.”

Mr. Faso’s accuracy was surprising, her daughter said.

“He identified my grandmother by name,” she said. “It’s basically to connect with the deceased. It was comforting. There was a connection he validated.”

The purpose of the fair, an annual event in Watertown and Canton and occasionally in other north country locations, is to help people find answers, said Wanda L. Winters, a psychic and integrated energy therapist who coordinates the event with Elizabeth “B.J.” Mosher, both of Alexandria Bay.

“All the people here are hand-picked. They’re all here with the intention of helping others. It’s very spiritual to me,” Ms. Winters said. “People come out of curiosity. They’re trying to find out who they are. More and more people are doing this.”

Ms. Mosher, a healer and labyrinth coordinator, agreed.

“I think a lot of people are seeking and there’s a lot of alternatives,” she said.

Other booths included aura photography, shamanic and Reiki healers, geodes and crystals, jewelry, herbs and incense and an animal communicator.

Kimberly L. Ward, Sackets Harbor, uses Reiki, a hands-on Japanese technique, to promote healing.

“It’s good for stress reduction, emotional distress if you’re holding onto pain,” she said. “It kind of opens up the pathways. It helps get that flow moving again.”

All of the practitioners at the fair feel a call to guide people toward well-being, she said.

“They have questions,” Ms. Ward said. “It’s all about helping them feel better.”

Sam A. Falvo, state director of the Mutual UFO Network, also came seeking answers.

“We’re trying to figure out what is going on with the UFO phenomenon,” he said.

Mutual UFO takes reports of UFO sightings and dispatches investigators to gather statements and evidence.

“About 93 percent of the reports are misidentifications,” Mr. Falvo said. “It’s those 7 percent to 10 percent that make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. A lot of people have stories.”

Mutual UFO tries to be scientific in its approach, even at a psychic fair.

“They’re more spiritual and we’re hard but they’ve kind of adopted us,” Mr. Falvo said.
