November marks the third year that the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign has had a presence in the Sandy Creek-Lacona community.
The money raised during the first campaign was used to purchase food for four families, buy glasses for a student and purchase backpacks and school supplies for Sandy Creek Central School. We also bought food for three local food pantries.
This year we have purchased food for the Sandy Creek-Lacona Food Pantry and also for the Redfield Food Pantry. We also bought 96 backpacks and some school supplies for students at Sandy Creek Central School. We are also purchasing turkeys for the Sandy Creek-Lacona Christmas baskets and for the Redfield Christmas baskets.
Salvation Army Red Kettle money can be used to purchase food and clothing items for individual families in need as well as to purchase larger amounts of food for local food pantries. Funds can be used to help with medical costs like prescriptions, glasses and dental needs. In conjunction with other agencies, funds can provide partial assistance for heating bills. Funds can also be used for emergency situations.
The Sandy Creek Big M has once again agreed to host our Red Kettle in front of the store, and we will need volunteer bell ringers beginning the week of Nov. 12. If you, or your organization, would like to help with bell ringing, please contact me at 387-3657. Please leave a message if no one answers your call.
Best wishes for a happy holiday.
