SYRACUSE — The “Battle On The Midway” men’s basketball game between No. 9 Syracuse and No. 20 San Diego State has been moved from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Sunday because of weather concerns.

The game is to be played on the aircraft carrier USS Midway. Weather forecasts for Friday include a high probability of rain and winds. Organizers and the two institutions decided to postpone the game.

“We remain committed to this once-in-a-lifetime experience.” Syracuse Director of Athletics Daryl Gross said.

in a statement. “We are very sorry for the inconvenience this change may have caused our fans. The weather predictions have forced the postponement.”

In addition to the game featuring two nationally-ranked squads, the contest pits veteran head coaches Jim Boeheim and Steve Fisher against each other. Both have guided teams to the NCAA Championship — Boeheim with Syracuse in 2003 and Fisher with Michigan in 1989.

It will be the season opener for Syracuse and San Diego State. The game will be televised by Fox Sports San Diego and carried on Fox Sports Regional networks.
