Juvenile having $270 robbed at gunpoint; trio arrested

Three young men were in police custody Wednesday night after they allegedly robbed a 15-year-old boy at gunpoint at Maywood Terrace, according to Watertown police.

The juvenile had $270 in his wallet, police said.

Nicholas M. Vanzelf, 20, of 409 Clay St., who spent 23 days in jail earlier in the year, Cody L. Davis, 18, of 124 Maywood Terrace, and Jesse R. Davis, 17, of 639 Olive St., are charged with second-degree robbery. Jesse Davis additionally is charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a BB pistol.

They were arraigned in City Court and jailed on $10,000 bail.

Police allege they forcibly took the juvenile’s wallet about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. Patrols were sent about five minutes later to a house on Lansing Street to open their investigation, and the first arrest was recorded at 8 p.m. at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, where Mr. Vanzelf was charged.

His two alleged accomplices were under arrest within the next 90 minutes.

Mr. Vanzelf was sent to jail May 29 after he was ruled in Jefferson County Court to be a probation violator and was discharged June 20, according to the jail.
