POTSDAM — The village is seeking feedback on a proposed law to limit street parking in several locations in an attempt to increase safety and visibility.

The law was created based on feedback from residents and Mayor Steven W. Yurgartis, studied by the parking board and presented to the village board.

The changes were proposed to increase safety and visibility along the affected roads, said Village Administrator David H. Fenton. Drivers are unable to properly see pedestrians or oncoming traffic over parked cars, and plows have difficulty getting through during the winter.

“It’s just little conveniences to make things easier for people,” Mr. Fenton said.

The following streets would be affected:

■ The south side of Bay Street near the corner of East Drive.

■ The south side of East Drive near the corner of Bay Street.

■ A single space on Main Street, in front of the Roxy Theater, to improve crosswalk visibility.

■ The east side of Market Street near the corner of Munson Street.

■ Both sides of Prospect Street between Grant and Main streets.

The proposed law also would limit parking in several Maple Street spots to 15 minutes.

The board will hold a public hearing at 6:45 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Civic Center board room to receive comments before voting on the law.

Once approved by the village, the law will be filed with the state Department of State, at which point it will take effect immediately.
