WEST MARTINSBURG A moose that appeared in a field on West Road Thursday returned Friday, drawing crowds to get a peek at the animal.
Department of Environmental Conservation spokesman Stephen W. Litwhiler stated, Its moose mating season. They will wander far and wide in search of a mate.
If a bull moose can not find a cow moose, Mr. Litwhiler explained, Sometimes they find an actual cow.
The moose had settled down in a field near a small heard of cows late Friday morning.
In the next month or so, he will move back to the Adirondacks, said Mr. Litwhiler, as mating season is coming to an end.
In the meantime, Mr. Litwhiler warned, Everyone should be cautious when driving.
This is the second moose sighting this season. In September a moose was seen in the town of Worth. Mr. Litwhiler said DEC officials do not believe this is the same animal as this moose is much larger.
