HEUVELTON – This year marks the 100th anniversary of the village of Heuvelton’s incorporation. The village plans to celebrate on Dec. 29 with a host of activities and a dedication of a time capsule to be opened at the next centennial celebration.

A display of memorabilia from Heuvelton’s history will also be on display on the second floor of Pickens General Store for the entire month of December to mark the occasion. Lowell A. McAllister, a member of the Heuvelton Historical Association, said he hopes community members really step up and loan items to the store for the display.

“[The items] will be returned to them,” said Mr. McAllister.

Anyone interested in dropping off an item to Pickens General Store for the display should call 344-7950 to get information.

Forms can be found at the town hall or Pickens General Store so that each item can be clearly labeled to ensure they will be returned to the right person.

The display will be organized after Thanksgiving and run all through December.

Mayor Barbara A. Lashua said she hopes a lot of people in the community come forward to make the display a success.

On Dec. 29 at 3:30 p.m. the village will dedicate a time capsule filled with current data at Murdock Park on State Street.

“The fabrication is in process,” said Ms. Lashua of the time capsule.

Fox-Murray Monument Company is donating the headstone for the time capsule.

Dec. 29 will also see live music at Pickens General Store throughout the day, including the Acoustic Brothers playing after the 8:00 p.m. fireworks.

At 6:00 p.m. a parade will make its way through the village.

Ms. Lashua said the village is looking for floats and participants to help them celebrate the centennial.
