CLAYTON The town formed the Route 12 Sewer District at a special meeting Wednesday night following a public hearing.
There was only support for the project from the public. We will be considering the bond resolution at next weeks meeting, said Supervisor Justin A. Taylor.
To fund the $5,350,000 project, the town is hoping to secure a $2 million state Environmental Facilities Corp. grant and a $750,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agricultures Rural Development Office. Clayton also is eligible for a no-interest hardship loan that would cover the remaining costs.
The proposed project is the first step toward completing a larger $12.2 million project to get most properties along Route 12 from the village of Clayton border to Fishers Landing, Orleans, hooked into a public sewage treatment system.
