Sundays observation of Veterans Day will see several area communities paying respect to local veterans.
Heuveltons Amvets post 1997 will have a wreath laying ceremony in front of the Oswegatchie Town Hall at 11 a.m.
After the ceremony a public lunch will be held at the Amvets 107 State St. post.
The American Legion in Waddington will also have a ceremony at 11 a.m.
The ceremony will not be more than 15 minutes, said Commander Michael S. McIntosh.
Mr. McIntosh will give a short speech and there will be prayers said as well.
Following the ceremony the American Legion will host a meal, open to the community, at their 23 Fenton St. post.
Mr. McIntosh said the bar will have special deals to mark the occasion.
Anyone, not just veterans, who comes will get their first round free.
After that, for veterans, beers will be $1 and mixed drinks will be $1.50.
Amy Rivera will provide musical entertainment.
Mr. McIntosh said the meal will be put on by community members, including the fire department, to honor the veterans.
The VFW Post in Canton will also have a flag raising at 11 a.m. to mark the day.
Massena will commemorate the day with a parade ending at the fire station where a ceremony will be held.
After the ceremony a lunch will be served for the veterans.
