SLU football (0-10) has first winless season since 2002

KINGS POINT — A 33-12 loss to the Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday gave the St. Lawrence University football team its first winless season since 2002.

The Saints (0-10 overall, 0-7 conference) had an early lead, scoring just 44 seconds into the game on a 37-yard pass from Danny Metzgar to Colby Johnson.

But Merchant Marine (5-5, 2-5) went on to score the next 20 points and cruised to a win in the season finale.

Quarterback Alex Coviello led Merchant Marine, rushing for 141 yards and throwing for 147 yards, including two touchdowns on a 67-yard pass to Colin Hinchey and an 80-yard pass to Connor Kennedy.

Metzgar threw for 248 yards for the Saints and Johnson finished with four receptions for 106 yards.
