People who would like to remember current or former clients, or even staff members, of Hospice of Jefferson County now may do so through the agency’s new commemorative paver program.

CEO Diana K. Woodhouse said the program is a fundraiser that is part of the agency’s overall landscape plan for Hospice of Jefferson County at the Ellis Farm, the eight-bed residence and office space at 1398 Gotham St.

“Right now we’re developing the landscape design, and pavers are scheduled to go in two or three places,” she said. “There’s the outside entrance to border the walkways. As people walk into the building, they’ll be able to see the names. We’d also like to do that by the employee entrance.”

As the landscape design is being worked on, Mrs. Woodhouse said, it also may include pavers in the back of the residence where there is more greenery and a patio.

The sale of pavers has been slow, but she said that is because the program’s big push is around the corner. Mrs. Woodhouse said there’s no end date to the program because there is plenty of space throughout the agency’s 5½-acre lot on which the facility was built.

Brick pavers come in two sizes: 4-inch-by-8-inch pavers are $100 with three lines and 14 characters per line, and 8-inch-by-8-inch pavers are $200 with five lines and 14 characters per line. Included on each paver may be a butterfly, heart, cross, or angel symbol.

People interested in purchasing a paver can call Hospice Foundation Director Lynn R. Dobbins at 788-7323.

Mrs. Woodhouse said the commemorative paver program is one of many ways the community can give back to Hospice. For a list of ways to contribute, people can search under the “support us” tab on the agency’s website, www.jeffersonhospice.org.
