CARTHAGE — What started as a way for a family to give back has become a community event. In its fourth year, the annual Thanksgiving feast is a combined effort by the Elks and Lions clubs, said Adam J. Fuller, the Elks’ leading knight.

It began with a family conversation among Mr. Fuller, his sister Diana M. Clement, currently president of the Lions, and their mother, Jeanne Fuller, also a Lion.

“We enjoy doing it, and it gives us a chance to give back and have fun at the same time. ... It is open to anybody and everybody,” Mr. Fuller said.

Sponsors are being sought so the dinner can be offered free to all. Donations of desserts are sought and can be dropped off at the Elks lodge, 511 Fulton St., any time next week up to Thanksgiving Day.

Walk-ins are welcome, but those planning to attend are asked to call 493-4043 by Monday. There will be two seatings, at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Elks lodge. Deliveries will be offered to those in Carthage who are shut in.
