FORT DRUM Soldiers from the post are continuing to aid victims of Superstorm Sandy.
Lt. Col. Michael B. Lalor, commander of the 710th Brigade Support Battalion of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, said soldiers in the past few days have been working in both New York and New Jersey, based from Fort Hamilton. In Manhattan, he said, soldiers have aided Army Corps of Engineer units that have been pumping water from subway areas. The battalion also has operated in West Orange, Freehold and Egg Harbor, N.J. Col. Lalor said his units work may be complete within the next 24 to 28 hours.
Capt. Wade M. Czajkowski, spokesman for the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, said crews are still completing two or three assessment missions per day. The brigade sent four of its medevac helicopters back to post since they were not being used.
