CARTHAGE Stewarts Shops has awarded $5,000 to the Carthage Free Library.
The money will be disbursed over the course of two years. A check for $2,500 was presented to library director Linda McCullogh and board of trustees members Darby Tarr and Gay Keogh on Oct. 31. A second check for the same amount will be disbursed in 2013.
Theyre going after getting grants and we decided to help them out, said Carrie Niciu, Stewarts district manager. On average, Stewarts distributes $2.25 million in money or products to communities each year.
While the money has not been designated to a specific project, Ms. McCullogh said the librarys next big goal is to get a new roof.
The library has been closed for renovations since September. While no date has been set for when it will reopen, officials are shooting for December.
