CANTON — The former town of Clare supervisor has admitted stealing more than $3,000 from the town by writing a check to herself.

Nicole A. Dimock, 36, of 60 Trout Lake St., Edwards, pleaded guilty Tuesday in St. Lawrence County Court to petit larceny and official misconduct, both Class A misdemeanors.

County Judge Jerome J. Richards released her on her own recognizance pending her March 3 sentencing.

“If you break any laws between now and sentencing, I can sentence you to up to two years in county jail,” the judge warned.

Ms. Dimock’s plea satisfied her original charges, including first-degree tampering with public records and third-degree grand larceny, both felonies.

Ms. Dimock admitted stealing $3,075.25 from the town by writing a check to herself on the town’s Agency and Trust Account on July 27, 2010.

Her attorney, Frederick E. Paddock, Gouverneur, said his client was prepared to pay $9,154 in restitution.

Besides the $3,075 check, an audit released by the state comptroller’s office in June claimed an additional $21,000 in checks written during Ms. Dimock’s time as supervisor couldn’t be accounted for. She resigned from the supervisor’s position in September 2010, nine months after being elected.

In other court news, an Ithaca man originally accused of possessing 21.5 pounds of marijuana was allowed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor count.

Timothy M. Poley, 21, of 1634 Trumansburg Road, Ithaca, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor. He admitted possessing more than 2 ounces of the drug on Jan. 19, 2011, in the town of Waddington. Sentencing is scheduled for March 4. He was released under the supervision of the Tompkins County Probation Department.
