SPEEDING - POTSDAM - Village police ticketed Mohan Kaushik, 23, of Potsdam for speed in zone (53/30) following a traffic stop at 10:39 p.m. Tuesday on Maple Street.

ISSUING BAD CHECK - CANTON - Shawn L. McGregor, 36, of 41 Grantville Road, Norfolk, was charged with issuing a bad check by state police at 9:44 p.m. Tuesday. McGregor allegedly passed a bad $84 check at Kunoco Food Mart. McGregor is an inmate at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, where he was sent for violating his parole. He was sentenced to five extra days in jail for passing the bad check.



ANIMAL TORTURE - PARISHVILLE - Gordon F. Earle, 58, of 987 Route 72, was charged with animal cruelty by state police at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday. Earle allegedly shot a dog while hunting. The dog’s owner’s mother saw the wounded dog coming out of the woods near Pumpkin Hill Road, and took it to an animal clinic where it had to be euthanized. Earle is scheduled to appear in Parishville Town Court.



UNLAWFUL POSSESSION - MASSENA - Massena-based state police charged Matthew J. Fortin, 20, of Cornwall, Ont., with unlawful possession of marijuana following a secondary inspection at 1:45 p.m. Monday at the U.S. port of entry in Rooseveltown.



PROPERTY DAMAGE ACCIDENT - MASSENA - Massena-based state police investigated a one-vehicle accident at 1:44 p.m. Tuesday on state Route 37, near the Haverstock Road, in the town of Massena. The vehicle was operated by Thomas E. Martell, 54, of Williamstown, Ont.



PROPERTY DAMAGE ACCIDENT - LISBON - Ogdensburg-based state police said Kevin D. Weems, 21, of Norwood was involved in a one-vehicle accident at 5:26 p.m. Tuesday on County Route 30, near County Route 27, in the town of Lisbon.



INJURY ACCIDENT - CANTON - Rachel A. Campbell, 22, of 72 Law Lane, was charged by village police with following too closely and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle following a 3-car accident Wednesday. The accident occurred at 9:44 a.m. on Riverside Drive. Elizabeth Taylor, 47, stopped at a red light, followed by Amanda Perry, 21. Ms. Campbell was unable to stop and crashed into Ms. Perry’s car, sending it forward into Ms. Taylor’s car, according to police. Ms. Taylor was taken to Canton Potsdam Hospital with a back injury. Investigators found that Ms. Campbell was driving with a suspended license. She is scheduled to appear in Canton Village Court.
