Funeral Services for Michael J. Donnelly, age 70, will be held Saturday 10AM at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Mr. Donnelly passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. Calling Hours will be held Friday November, 16, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00PM at Frary Funeral Home.

Mr. Donnelly is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; one daughter Marianne and her husband James Bell of Ogdensburg, one son, Michael (Donnelly) Sprague and his companion Heather of Liverpool, NY. He is survived by his brother Robert (Sylvia) Donnelly of Camilus, NY. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Mellissa Sprague, Amanda Sprague, Kristina Sprague, Taylor Bell, James Bell, and Dawson Bell. He is predeceased by a sister Barbara Theriault.

Mr. Donnelly was born in Gouverneur, April 25, 1942, the son of Edwin and Marion Adams Donnelly. He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1960. He joined the Navy in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1964. He retired from Niagara Mohawk as Chief Operator where he worked for 40 years.

He married Mary Ellen Missert on November 13, 1982, at their home. He had two previous marriages to Judith Fuller and Susan Roe.

During his time in the Navy he was a Naval Photographer whose accomplishments included flying over the Cuban Missile crisis, the Kennedy Funeral, and the Civil Rights Movement. One of his photographs was published in Time Magazine.

He was a member of the AMVETS, Sylvia Lake Association, Moose Lodge, and was inducted into the Gouverneur High School hall of fame in 2012.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, vacationing, spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather.
