LOWVILLE — Lewis County election officials will begin counting more than 900 absentee and affidavit votes today.

Beginning at 10 a.m., 819 absentee and 100 affidavit ballots that have been deemed valid by county election commissioners will be counted in the former St. Peter’s Catholic School library on Shady Avenue.

Unless other candidates or their representatives request an immediate count, commissioners plan to first record votes only for the Lewis County judge race, then handle remaining races after that count is complete.

The only race that could mathematically be affected by the count is for judge, in which Republican Daniel R. King unofficially holds a 246-vote lead over Democrat Kevin M. McArdle, 4,905 to 4,659.

The victor will earn a 10-year seat as county judge, which also oversees Family and Surrogate courts.
