Two north country athletes joined the national championship celebration this week as the Mohawk Valley Community College womens soccer team captured the NJCAA Division III title Sunday.
Former South Lewis player Brooke Pominville and former Salmon River player Kaitlyn Lauzon are each members of the Mohawk Valley team. Pominville is a freshman forward/midfielder and Lauzon a freshman defender.
The Hawks won their second national title and first since 2003 with a 4-1 victory over Gloucester CC at Tompkins-Cortland CC in Dryden. Mohawk Valley was the top-ranked team going into the tournament.
