Two north country cats featured in national calendars

Two cats, one from Fort Drum and the other from Watertown, have clawed their way into homes across the country in the form of a popular series of feline calendars.

Each year, Workman Publishing receives thousands of entries from pet owners around the world for its popular pet calendars.

Loui, owned by Ashley Fleshman of Fort Drum, is featured in the 2013 “365 Cats” Picture-a-Day desk calendar. Lucky Loui is seen going about his business March 22 at his toilet/litter box.

“Most cats can be trained to use a human toilet,” the caption notes. “Just be prepared to put up with a little mess as your cat makes the transition from lowly box to porcelain throne.”

The kitten Sophie, owned by Mary Frances Coppola of Watertown, is featured on Oct. 16 in “The 365 Days of Kittens a Year” wall calendar published by Workman.

Workman Publishing editors are selecting photos for 2014 calendars. For more information on submitting, visit Information can also be found in the calendars, which can be ordered on the website. Wall calendars are $12.99 and Page-a-Day calendars are $13.99.
